Taking hold of the bag between her teeth and placing the beverage under her arm, wincing slightly at the cold, and opened the door. Throwing the snack on the multi-colored, polka-dotted comforter she flopped down beside it and grabbed her laptop. She logged in, only to see a string of status updates about the exact topic she was so worried, and excited, about. She quickly logged off.
Two handfuls of Pirate's Booty and three sips of Dr. Pepper later she closed the bag and got up.
After just standing for a moment, looking around the room, she walked over to her bookshelf. She ran her fingers along the spines of them. Everything ranging from Jane Austen to Dean Koontz. Between an old tattered copy of the first Gossip Girl book and some vampire novel she'd received as a present, was a little pink and orange book. Made of construction paper with neatly messy handwriting on the cover...
She pulled it out and examined the front. If I Die Young...
She opened it and sank down onto the bed.
100 Things To
Do
Before I Die
She flipped to the next page. Bright yellow paper with neon colors screamed out at her.
10 Things To Do
Before High School
Graduation
Only one truly mattered. She'd done all the rest...
10.) Leave nothing left unsaid.
She sighed and closed the book. She flipped over and closed her eyes.
Graduating. Tomorrow. I'm graduating.
Then she was asleep.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The sun was shining, the birds were chirping, and all right with the world.
...
In reality, it was raining, pouring, and the school's graduation was on the football field.
So, Kylie was out in the pouring rain, the flashing lights of cameras blinding her slightly. She just finished smiling for a picture with a classmate she barely knew when she saw him.
Gathering up her courage and remembering the last thing on that list... she ran up to him.
"Hey! Wait" She ran up to him. "Kyle." He turned around to face her and rolled his eyes. Before he could say anything she put a hand up to stop him.
"Look, it's graduation. We're mostly likely never going to see each other again. Just...just do me one thing...
Why do you hate me? Honestly. Why? That's all I want to know." She shrugged.
He squinted at her. Her fair hair now appeared dark and was in messy ringlets.
"Honestly?" He repeated.
"Yeah. Honestly."
"Because...Because you didn't love me."
She nodded. "Wait. What?!"
"It just...hurt, I guess, that you didn't love me. So I decided to hate you. Just to make it easier I guess."
She just stood there and stared at him in disbelief.
"Whatever." He shrugged and looked back over at his shoulder. "See you later, Ky. Or not." He shrugged and began to walk away. Kylie stood there for a minute before screaming out
"Wait!"
Half the people on the field looked at her, but not the one she wanted.
So, she ran up and kissed him. On a football field in the pouring rain.
"I'm going to Seattle." She said once she pulled away.
"California...L.A." He said, looking slightly dazed.
"They aren't that far away." She shrugged.
He cracked a smile.
"No, they're not."
Then brought his lips back down onto hers.
