One Life To Live

She walked through the living room, towel drying her hair with one hand. The familiar voices of the newscasters floating from the local eleven o'clock news provided a sense of comfort. A great contrast to the anxiety that had been growing for the past two weeks. She paused to toss the towel into the hamper and continued on the way to her room, stopping again to grab a Dr. Pepper and half empty bag of Pirate's Booty.
Taking hold of the bag between her teeth and placing the beverage under her arm, wincing slightly at the cold, and opened the door. Throwing the snack on the multi-colored, polka-dotted comforter she flopped down beside it and grabbed her laptop. She logged in, only to see a string of status updates about the exact topic she was so worried, and excited, about. She quickly logged off.
Two handfuls of Pirate's Booty and three sips of Dr. Pepper later she closed the bag and got up.
After just standing for a moment, looking around the room, she walked over to her bookshelf. She ran her fingers along the spines of them. Everything ranging from Jane Austen to Dean Koontz.  Between an old tattered copy of the first Gossip Girl book and some vampire novel she'd received as a present, was a little pink and orange book. Made of construction paper with neatly messy handwriting on the cover...
She pulled it out and examined the front.  If I Die Young...
She opened it and sank down onto the bed.
100 Things To
Do
Before I Die

She flipped to the next page. Bright yellow paper with neon colors screamed out at her.

10 Things To Do
Before High School
Graduation

Only one truly mattered. She'd done all the rest...

10.) Leave nothing left unsaid.

She sighed and closed the book. She flipped over and closed her eyes.
Graduating. Tomorrow. I'm graduating.
Then she was asleep.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The sun was shining, the birds were chirping, and all right with the world.
...
In reality, it was raining, pouring, and the school's graduation was on the football field.
So, Kylie was out in the pouring rain, the flashing lights of cameras blinding her slightly. She just finished smiling for a picture with a classmate she barely knew when she saw him.
Gathering up her courage and remembering the last thing on that list... she ran up to him.
"Hey! Wait" She ran up to him. "Kyle." He turned around to face her and rolled his eyes. Before he could say anything she put a hand up to stop him.
"Look, it's graduation. We're mostly likely never going to see each other again. Just...just do me one thing...
Why do you hate me? Honestly. Why? That's all I want to know." She shrugged.
He squinted at her. Her fair hair now appeared dark and was in messy ringlets.
"Honestly?" He repeated.
"Yeah. Honestly."
"Because...Because you didn't love me."
She nodded. "Wait. What?!"
"It just...hurt, I guess, that you didn't love me. So I decided to hate you. Just to make it easier I guess."
She just stood there and stared at him in disbelief.
"Whatever." He shrugged and looked back over at his shoulder. "See you later, Ky. Or not." He shrugged and began to walk away. Kylie stood there for a minute before screaming out
"Wait!"
Half the people on the field looked at her, but not the one she wanted.
So, she ran up and kissed him. On a football field in the pouring rain.
"I'm going to Seattle." She said once she pulled away.
"California...L.A." He said, looking slightly dazed.
"They aren't that far away." She shrugged.
He cracked a smile.
"No, they're not."
Then brought his lips back down onto hers.

Stolen Kisses

S t o l e n   kisses
in the corners of  p r o m i s e s

Walls tumbling down

Walls built up with s e c r e t s
and torn down with
l i e s

Nobody hearing our cries

Of
      d e s p e r a t i o n

Of
   c o n t e m p l a t i on

About what to do

Tell them the t r u t h?

Or stick to our c o v e r

As long as we both still have

each other.

Invisible Tears

Everyday I shed invisible tears

Because everyone winds up leaving me here...

...to suffer

They're always leaving

Never believing...

...in me

No one hears the cries

In the middle of the night

No one stands

By my side

A blank expression hides my fears

When I cry invisible tears

Why am I treated this way

It's a big price to pay for a few mistakes

Everyone gets hurt in their lifetime

But getting hurt this much should be a crime

No one hears the cries

In the middle of the night m

No one stands

By my side

A blank expression hides my fears

When I cry invisible tears

I'm tired of all the excuses

Tired all of the lies

Everyone winds up leaving me

It's no longer a surprise

No one hears the cries

In the middle of the night

No one stands

By my side

Because no one wants to be near

Someone who cries invisible tears

Toasty Morning [Short Story]

The huge old house was silent, well as silent as it could possible by with six kids and a dog in the house. Loud snoring that no one would admit to filled the house and then it stopped. One by one.

The first to stop was little Annie.

She was only four but she snored the loudest of them all.

The aroma drifted to her and she woke right up. She sat straight up in her bed and threw back the covers.

She hit Jack (the dog sleeping at the foot of the bed) in the face. She jumped out of bed and ran down the hall, Jack following her. The force of impact was loud on the hardwood floor, efficiently waking up Kayla and Karter (which was not an easy task to do).

“Annie!” The two seven year old twins screamed.

Then they realized the reason as to why their younger sister had woken up and they too scrambled out of bed.

Next to wake was James. Sweet, dorky, eleven year old James.

Kayla and Karter's screams were so loud he could hear them from downstairs. Instead of yelling at them he groaned, turned over, and put his pillow over his face. But in the brief moment he was turning over his face was exposed. And the wonderful aroma that had magically woken everyone else up got to him as well. He quickly, and loudly, ran up the stairs.

“Idiot!” Blake screamed. His room was right across from James' room and James had woken up. Though how he heard him over the heavy metal music that never seemed to stop playing,no one will ever know. The big gothic guy thundered up the stairs, eyes flashed with anger. He was searching for his brother, ready to strangle him for waking him up before noon. His eyes landed on his brother and he raised his arm. But then he saw what James had in his hand...

Hailey, unlike everyone else, was already up and almost ready for the day. All she had left to do was apply the perfect amount of Pink Rose to her lips. As she started to do just that Blake ran up the stairs causing the entire house to shake. Also causing Hailey's hand to jerk and her face to end up with a pink streak across it.

“Ugh! Idiot!” She said gently wiping her face. Then she heard a lot of screaming coming from the kitchen. She rolled her eyes before heading to see what all the commotion was about.

“Hey!” She yelled and grabbed the object everyone was making a fuss over.

A piece of cinnamon sugar raisin toast.

That last piece.

“Give it.” Blake demanded. “Now.”

“No.” She said and he narrowed his eyes.

“Give it, now, or I'll tell Johnny...” Hailey's eyes went wide when Blake mentioned her boyfriend.

“...who you were really with last Saturday.”

Hailey's eyes narrowed just like her brother's had a moment ago.

“I will. You know I will.” Blake said, smiling smugly.

Hailey reluctantly began to hand the toast over but before it reached Blake's awaiting hands James popped up between them.

“I can get you that fake ID you wanted.” He said adjusting his glasses.

“How did you...” Hailey began but was interrupted by the twins.

“We won't steal your makeup anymore.”

“You've been stealing my makeup?” Hailey asked. She felt a tug on her shirt. She looked down to see a pair of big green eyes staring up at her.

“I'm your favorite.” Annie said. When everyone turned to face her she shrugged.

“I'm everybody's favorite.”

Hailey rolled her eyes. “Look, I don't have time for this.” She started walking away, throwing the toast over her shoulder.

They all went for the piece of toast that had landed on the edge of the table.

“No!” They all screamed as it tilted more toward one side.

It fell.

Fell, fell, fell, right into Jack's awaiting mouth.

“Ruff!”

Mirror, Mirror [Poetry]

Mirror, Mirror
In the hall

Who is the ugliest of them all?

Mirror, Mirror

Don't lie to me,

I can clearly see,

It's me.

Mirror, Mirror

In my purse,

Every time I pull you out my day gets worse.

Mirror, Mirror

Break, please

I'm tired of looking

at … me.

Reflection, Reflection

Don't you see?

I hate you.

And you hate me.

Daughter Of Coercion [Poetry]

She was a force of nature.

Sarcasm, threat, and wit were her native tongues.

Though wit was so deeply hidden that no one could detect it.

The sarcasm, though more obvious, was interlaced with threat and the imminent threat of danger behind the sarcastic remarks was the only thing perceived causing the unfortunate soul she was terrorizing to save themselves by running far, far away.

She was a force of nature.

Her long blonde curls were the wind.

Icy blue eyes the rain.

And a single word spoken from her blood red lips could make lightning strike down upon you.

She was a force of nature.

Tomorrow [Short Story]

Ruby sat on the swing, flying higher and higher with every push of her legs.

The wind, combined with the swinging motion, made her hair blow into her face but she didn't care.

Her eyes sparkled at the sensation of feeling like a six year old instead of a sixteen year old.

She laughed as the tip of her shoe barely brushed the tree branch that hung somewhat hazardously over the old, rusted swing set. She laughed again as she touched it a second time and her best friend Damien watched in awe.

Ruby Emerald.

With a like that you'd assume she had red hair and green eyes, yet she'd been blessed with clichéd golden locks and periwinkle eyes. But to Damien it didn't matter, she'd be beautiful no matter how she looked.

Ruby jumped out of the swing, having completed her childish mission: touch the highest branch on the sycamore, and she landed on Damien, knocking him to the ground. Their laughs joined together harmoniously. Ruby turned her head slightly to look at Damien and and Damien looked at her. With her wind blown hair, flushed face, sparkling eyes, and it took every ounce of self control he had not to kiss her right then and there.

The voice inside his head wasn't helping either.

Come on! Tell her! Kiss her and tell her you love her now!

He leaned in slowly and then...Ruby's phone rang.

No latest hit or cool unknown band. Just...a ring.

He watched as she hopped up and answered her phone.

As he watched her walk back and forth absentmindedly he decided.

Tomorrow. I'll tell her tomorrow.

Damien laid in his bed as vision of a blonde haired blue eyed beauty danced in his head.

As soon as the clock struck twelve, Damien's eyes snapped open. Something was wrong.

He could...feel it.

Just then his phone rang. Just a ring. Just like Ruby's.

“Hello?”

“D-Damien. It's Ruby. She's been hurt.” As soon as the words reached his ears, he was out the door.

Damien's eyes hastily scanned the waiting room and he found the back of the blonde locks he knew very well.

“Mrs. Carmichael. Ruby? What's – what's wrong with her? Is she – is she okay?"
Then he saw the look on Ruby's mother's face.

“Oh, God.”

Tomorrow was too late.
